President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Sunday (6) formally inaugurated the ‘Sri Buddha Rashmi national Vesak zone’ along Navam mawatha around Sri Gangarama premises in the company of Ministers, Secretaries, Chief of Defence Staff, Army, Navy and Air Force Commanders, Inspector General of Police and several other senior members of the Sri Gangarama dayaka sabha.

Meanwhile, the Bauddhaloka Mawatha Vesak illuminations continued to draw huge crowds for the second consecutive day on Sunday (6).
A large number of Vesak lanterns, crafted by a few Army Regiments were multi-coloured and beautifully done. Some of them were on display, ahead of the perimeter wall of the Commander’s official residence at Colombo 7.
Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army together with Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya opened the illuminations and viewed those lanterns and personally thanked the soldiers who toiled hard to produce them.
