Troops of the 24 Division Headquarters at Malwatta, Ampara on account of the Army Day (October 10) and the 68th Army Anniversary launched several programmmes under the guidance of Major General Mahinda Mudalige, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 24 Division.
The day was marked with military formalities like the hoisting of National flag, etc as the first segment of the programme inside the Headquarters. Afterwards, more than 600 varieties of saplings, including, Jak, Mango, Woodapple, Lime, Custard Apple, Kumbuk, Bulu, Teak, Kaya, Margosa, etc were planted inside the compound during morning hours of the day (October 10).
In the afternoon, 24 Division troops went to the ‘Sarana’ Elders’ Home in Ampara and conducted a cleaning programme inside the premises as one more community-oriented project. They also disposed piles of garbage.
As the dusk fell, 24 Division troops gathered in front of the shrine in the premises and joined together for religious observances by conducting a special Bodhi Pooja Pinkama. The GOC and all ranks serving the 24 Division Headquarters were present during those arrangements.
