Island-wide Security Force Headquarters of the Army in accordance with guidelines given by the Army Headquarters had their own Army 68th Anniversary programmes, organized giving pride of place to military formalities, reading of the Commander’s message and community-oriented projects on the very day of the 68th Anniversary and Army Day (October 10).
The ceremony of the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) at Palaly Tuesday (10) morning started with hoisting of the SFHQ-J flag in the presence of a gathering of Officers and Other Rankers. Brigadier Rasika Karunathilake, Brigadier General Staff, SFHQ-J representing the Jaffna Commander hoisted the flag and read out the Commander’s Army Day message after the national anthem was recited.
A few minutes later, Brigadier Karunathilake symbolically planted a sapling in the SFHQ-J compound and added memories to the 68th Anniversary of the Army. An all rank lunch, the same afternoon brought the anniversary arrangements to culmination.
Meanwhile, Brigadier H.P.N.K Jayapathirana, Brigadier General Staff, Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W), representing the Wanni Commander, joined the Army 68th Anniversary ceremony inside the SFHQ-W premises on October 10.
Hoisting of the SFHQ-W flag, recital of the Army song and reading of the Commander’s Army Day Message and an All Rank tea table dominated the day’s itinerary, headed by Brigadier H.P.N.K Jayapathirana, Brigadier General Staff at the SFHQ-W. Officers and Other Rankers joined the occasion.
Prior to the Army Day, the SFHQ-W troops on Sunday (8) on account of the Army Anniversary offered a hearty meal to the inmates at the Grace Children’s Orphanage in Vavuniya. Similarly, religious observances of Buddhist, Hindu, Catholic and Islamic faiths were performed respectively by the SFHQ-W in Vavuniya area before the Army Day fell.
In the meantime, Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) celebrated the 68th Army Anniversary on 10 October 2017 with several events under the guidance of Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, Commander, Security Forces – Kilinochchi (SF-KLN).
Hoisting of the Army flag, recital of the Army song and reading of the Commander’s message and an All Rank lunch dominated the day’s anniversary programme at the SFHQ-KLN. Brigadier General Staff, Brigadier Admin & Quartering and Colonel Admin & Quartering, Senior staff Officers and Other Ranks serving at the SFHQ-KLN participated in the day’s anniversary itinerary.
Before the main programme at the SFHQ-KLN got underway on Tuesday (10), approximately 100 soldiers took part in a Shramadana campaign at Kilinochchi Base Hospital premises, the previous day, Monday (9). During this campaign, troops cleaned up drainage systems, wards, mosquito breeding places, dark places, etc in the compound within a few hours.
