Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J)-organized 'Palmyrah Ingenuity - 2017' innovative exhibition in collaboration with the Ministry of Technology and Research was held during 17-18 May at Weerasingham Hall, Jaffna.
With the objective of ‘Transforming Creative Imagination into Innovation’, among the troops of the SFHQ-J the ‘Palmyrah Ingenuity’ was staged in order to tap inherent innovative talents of hundreds of troops serving the Jaffna peninsula.
A large gathering of students in addition to civilians in the peninsula thronged the Weerasingham Hall both days at the invitation of authorities at the Department of Education in Jaffna.
The first day (17) of the exhibition was inaugurated by Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, Security Forces -Jaffna (SF-J) at the invitation of the chief organizer of the event Brigadier Adeepa Thilakarathne, Brigade Commander, 552 Brigade accompanied by Rear Admiral Jayantha De Silva, Commander, Northern Naval Area, Brigadier Marvyn Perera, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 51 Division, Brigadier Sanath Perera, Commander, Forward Maintenance Area - North (FMA-N), Brigade Commanders, Senior Government Officials and Senior tri forces Officers.
Corporal D.M.C Disanayaka of the 2 (V) Military Intelligence Corps (MIC) was awarded the first prize for his innovative ‘Hazard Protective Sensitivity Equipment’, Corporal B.P.W Dissanayaka of 14 Gajaba Regiment (GR) meanwhile achieved the second prize for his innovation equipment ‘Electronic Glouse for Blind Personnel’.
Sergeant M.N Karunathilake of the 4 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment was awarded the third prize for his innovative ‘Automotive Sensitivity System’.
All other inventors also received certificates and prizes for their innovative products during the closing ceremony on Thursday (18).
The Commissioner of the Sri Lanka Inventors Commission, Dr C Mahesh Edirisinghe graced the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest and awarded certificates and prizes to the winners.
