The Army Inter Regiment Wrestling Tournament-2016/2017 that got off the ground under the close supervision of Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Chairman, Army wrestling Committee concluded at the Panagoda gymnasium on Thursday (16), amid a gathering of wrestling fans.
A total of 10 Regimental teams, comprised of hundreds of wrestlers competed for supremacy in the three-day (14-16) tournament, organized by the Sri Lanka Army Wrestling Committee to be in conformity with rules and regulations of the Sri Lanka Wrestling Association and the International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles (FILA).
This was the third tournament conducted by referees and national-level players in the Army. National level referees and judges contributed to the successful conduct of the tournament.
Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Chairman, Army wrestling Committee graced the finals as the Chief Guest and gave away medals to the best of the best in the tournament.
Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) wrestlers were adjudged as Champions securing 5 Gold and 3 Silver medals while Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) emerged to be the runners-up with 1 Gold, 4 Silver and 5 Bronze medals.
Lance Coropral T.A.N.D Palamure of SLEME became the Best Wrestler in the inter regiment tournament at Panagoda.
