Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) of the Army in conformity with military traditions presented a Guard Turnout plus a Parade to the newly-appointed Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake on Thursday (13) at the SLE Regimental Headquarters, Panagoda.
Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake before he took an inter-unit transfer to the Special Forces (SF) in 1989 served in the SLE after receiving his commissions from the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA).
On his arrival at the premises, a Guard Turnout greeted him after he was welcomed by Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Colonel Commandant, SLE as the first segment in the day’s agenda.
Not forgetful of their past sacrifices, the Chief Guest laid a floral tribute to the SLE war memorial and paid his respect to the memory of fallen SLE War Heroes as a priority in the day’s programme before the ceremony got underway.
Later on, the Chief Guest for the occasion was ushered to the main area for receipt of military honours in a parade, accompanied by the Colonel Commandant, SLE.
As melodies of patriotic songs rent the air, the Commander of the Army, the Chief Guest for the occasion reviewed the parade upon the formal request of the parade commander.
After a few minutes, the Commander of the Army delivered a customary address to the troops at the venue.
Afterwards, the Commander shared refreshments with All Ranks and sat for a group photo with the attendees at the location.
After the day’s main programme was over, the visiting Commander of the Army took time off to have a look at the ongoing auditorium construction project of the SLE in the company of Colonel Commandant, Centre Commandant and a few Senior Officers.
Before his departure he left his signature in the Visitors’ Book at the SLE Regimental Headquarters.
