233 Brigade Headquarters of the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E), determined to join the ongoing environment friendly ‘Green Revolution’ took steps to launch a tree planting campaign plus a coastal cleaning programme in the general area of Vakarai on Sunday (12).
233 Brigade Headquarters in coordination with 18 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) troops provided saplings of coconuts, pines and mangroves at the invitation of Colonel Chandra Jayaweera, 233 Brigade Commander.
Similarly, 18 Sri Lanka National Guard troops of the 233 Brigade in Vakarai joined hands and cleaned up the coastal beach in Vakarai during the huge Shramadana campaign that covered the whole of Sunday (12).
During the programme, 40 coconut saplings, 20 twisted pines and 150 mangrove saplings were planted covering the entire beach front in Vakarai.
The programme was conducted on the instructions of the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 23 Division, Brigadier Chula Abenayake.
A large number of troops from 18 SLNG and 233 Brigade participated in the programme.
